Gildo Bavčević

Gildo Bavčević is a multimedia artist who works in the field of performance, video installation, film, photography and sound. His work engages with political, social, economic and environmental issues. Currently he is a  PhD Candidate in practical studies in the field of new media at the Faculty of Fine arts in Belgrade and he works as a freelance teaching assistant at the Film and Media Department at the Arts Academy in Split. His work has been included in: OSTRALE, Biennale for Contemporary Art, Dresden (2021), COEXISTANCE FOR A NEW ADRIATIC KOINE, Pino Pascali Foundation, Polignano a Mare, Bari/ Italy (2015), PLEASE EMPTY YOUR WALLETS, Emil Filla Gallery, Ústínad Labem/ Czech Republic, (2016), INDUSTRIAL ART BIENNALE, Labin City Gallery, Labin/ Croatia (2016), WE’RE NOT LIKE THEM, international group exhibition within the project Risk Change, MMSU Rijeka/ Croatia, (2019), WHEN ARCHITECTURE BECOMES A MEMORY, Gallery VN Zagreb/ Croatia (2017), 25FPS INTERNATIONAL EXPERIMENTAL FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL, Zagreb (2019). THE USE OF MAN, Danube Dialogues festival, Novi Sad/ Serbia. He was the finalist of the RADOSLAV PUTAR AWARD (2018) and he won the prize for his video performance Plastic Man Machine at 39TH SPLIT SALON (2015) exhibition of contemporary art, and Virtual Museum Dotrščina award (2018). Beside that he took the second prize at 51st REVIEW OF CROATIAN FILMMAKING (2019) for his experimental film Split Waltz 021_123 and the first prize at 46th REVIEW OF CROATIAN FILMMAKING (2014) for his documentary Solidarity Network. The documentary film was part of his graduate thesis in which he obtained his MA in Film and Media Production from Split's Art Academy (2013). His work was also featured in: MANIFESTA 11: WHAT PEOPLE DO FOR MONEY, The European biennial of contemporary art, Coins – Or How to Create Value in collaboration with Sandra Bradvić, Zurich/ Switzerland (2016), MEDITERRANEA 16. BJCEM Biennale of Young Artist from Mediterranean, Solidarity Network research project in collaboration with Nina Jurić, Antej Jelenić, Petar Grimani and others, Ancona/ Italy (2013), THE CARTA INFINITA, video installation Performing-Reflecting-Observing in collaboration with Tanja Vujasinović, Gallery The Window, Paris/ France, (2019), and others.
