Reflecting on how certain material relations come to be spatialized in given locations, in the course “Fragments As Method” we will consider the work of building through fragments. Students will be encouraged to engage in shifting and unsettling categories of urban-suburban-rural/center-margin by giving attention to what is scattered, disregarded, dismissed, overlooked. Through readings, input, and discussion, the course will introduce relevant concepts and praxes, cultivating space for taking up fragments as an approach to research, working across and in between fields, and analyzing and making relations anew.
Included are texts by Katherine Mckittrick, Gyanendra Pandey, Ruth Wilson Gilmore, and Swati Chattopadhyay.
