Michelle Geraerts

Michelle Geraerts (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Worlds of Lithium project at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In her work, Michelle engages with the growing field of energy humanities, particularly including discard studies, intersectional feminism, materiality, art, and science and technology studies. She has a background in Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies with specialisations in environmental anthropology and climate crisis. For her master’s in Anthropology of Sustainable Citizenship, she challenged the dualisms of natural ‘vs’ artificial through creative research methods in collaboration with artists in Germany and The Netherlands. The outcome, ‘Speculative New Ecologies’ was awarded the Nieboer Thesis prize. Currently, Michelle is part of the editorial collective of the blog Lithium Worlds.
